Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is one of the most diverse habitats on earth. The fish associated with it are frequently brightly coloured and teeming in shoals across an equally bright coral. Whilst that is true, occasionally there are more solitary wonderers like sharks and rays. This juvenile Leopard shark was one such encounter and a more pleasant “pallet cleanser” I couldn’t have imagined on the day. It’s skill in gliding through the clear coral sea whilst just clipping the surface to create these glorious halos of ripples was an inspiration to capture. Almost sublime in mood and reflects the endless, fathomless realms of the ocean we still know so little about.
