The Australian Icon, ripped, strong, imposing male responding to something entering his territory. The majesty of these quiet herbivores is quiet and understated, they simply let you know that all is well unless you push your luck, laid back and tolerant of most things… to a point - then you had better back off! This big boy was in far north Queensland just on the edge of town and had a dozen or so females in his mob. The large claws are for digging and scrapping at the roots of shrubs and plant life to extract the lush water filled parts of the plants rather than the leaves which have often dried to a tough fibrous husk in the outback sun.
